She is the real reason why Mori’s preferred form is a human.
But is also the reason that he despises her species.
Centuries ago, whilst saving his brother from a human’s trap, Mori had gotten trapped in his stead. Although his brother ran for help, Mori found his own means of escape from the most unlikely source – a member of the race that he was taught to hate.
Of course, being Mori, he regarded her with arrogance and disdain. However, after paying him a few more visits, Mori was surprised to realise that she had given him her heart, and he had given her his in return.
It wasn’t long until the Shifters had decided to wage war against the humans. Mori tried to stand up for the “two-legged demons”, but his people were blinded with hatred. With no other option, Mori decided to warn her about the attack, and persuaded her to flee; even if it meant that they would never meet again, he would be comforted in the fact that she was safe. She refused, and being the chief’s daughter, offered to speak to her father in order to stop the battle before it began.
Her efforts were futile. Not only was her father enraged with the fact that his daughter was romantically involved with a Shifter, but he vowed to take Mori’s blood with his own sword. In the midst of the battle, defying her father’s orders, she charged into battle in order to rescue as many Shifters as she could, and to save the boy she loved.
She succeeded, but at a horrible price.
Just as her father wielded his sword above Mori’s head, and swung to strike, she dove into the path and took his blade. However, instead of stopping the battle, his daughter’s death worsened the chief’s anger, and he did not stop until the Shifter’s sanctuary was burnt to the ground.
Mori, being enraged with the fact that the humans had slaughtered his people, also despised them for causing the death of one of their own. Despite his hatred for all of humankind, he keeps his human form, and the scarf that she gave him, in order to remind himself that there was one who was different.

Wouldn't it be adorable if this happened and than years later he was guarded and paranoid that he couldn't love because his heart had been broken years ago and he ends up meeting another human girl and falling in love? I'm such a romantic dweeb.
